PHANTOM is playing at the 16th Festival Of Animated Film in Stuttgart, in the international competition.
The DVD of PHANTOM OF THE CINEMA is out now! The film is introduced by the director. If you want to learn all about the complexities and secrets of the Phantom story you can listen to the directors commentary. THE PHANTOM, a movie about a film show gone wrong, is now showing in different theaters, on different festivals in different countries. I’ve been visiting several of these screenings. All of them had a problem of some sort. I have never seen so many failed attempts to project a movie. There were problems with the sound, they forgot to dim the lights, they cut off the epilogue scene, the film was projected much to big so all action happened off screen, it was projected with the wrong aspect ratio, the operator even knocked over the projector one time. I am not lying! THE PHANTOM OF THE CINEMA is jinxed. Beware!
I finished work on the Phantom DVD. It has some great special features and it will be avaliable soon. This site will be filled with even more extra’s soon. (I’m a bit busy working on other films and television series, but I promise to post some great stuff soon!)
At the HAFF the audience award Dutch Animation 2008 was won by Big Buck Bunny (produced by the Blender Institute). Second and third place came The Phantom Of The Cinema and The Seven Brothers (Paul and Kaj Driessen).
Today I got the news that THE PHANTOM OF THE CINEMA is chosen to be the Dutch short animated film to go to the Oscars. I know this is not yet a victory. First we have to be nominated (22 January 2009) and than we can win the Oscar (22 February 2009). If everything goes well. Just imagine everything going well…
THE PHANTOM OF THE CINEMA will premiere soon. It will then visit the Holland Animation Film Festival and the Nederlands Filmfestival.
Friday September 5th pop club Luxor Live opens with a spectacular party. THE PHANTOM will have it’s premiere in Arnhem. Built at the beginning of the twentieth century by architect Diehl, Luxor was one of Hollands first cinema’s. We featured this fantastic theatre in THE PHANTOM, in it’s original shape. It will be a very special night when the old Luxor cinema comes to life in the new, restored Luxor club. On DVD though… Luxor lost it’s 35mm projector.
Oh joy! The work is done. The Phantom has moved from my hard disk to celluloid. Now it has truly become a movie. Soon, in a theater near you!
Right now I’m working on the DVD of the movie. That’s going to be a great disk with an introduction, directors commentary and music.
